Nestled in the heart of Hollywood, Florida. The Modern Rose is more than just a restaurant; it's a blossoming oasis of flavors and ambiance. From the moment you step through the door, you're greeted by a vibrant mix of contemporary design and cozy charm, However, that warm fuzzy feeling is right by the door and it's a bit overwhelming. Meaning right off the bat, I'm greeted by a coordinator and someone's table at the door. unfortunately, the whole place was crammed, and you have no room to wait for seating. This brings me to the wait time that was literally an hour and a half for coffee and avocado toast. Unreasonable! I felt that the TikTok advertisement did not give off this impression and I felt a duty to report it. With that being said, you may be seated with people you don't know, or so close to them that you might as well join the conversation.
Whether you're a local foodie or a curious traveler, The Modern Rose promises a unique culinary journey that delights the senses and warms the soul that's best visited on a weekday that has less traffic. Join me as I explore every inch of this destination and its unique atmosphere, so that you can decide if it's worth your time and money.
A culinary taste of Hits and Misses
First, let's dive into their signature drinks, which were a real hit. I kicked off my day with the Almond Joy Latte, which not only provided a delicious start but also gave me the perfect frothy mustache, warming my lips with each sip. Next, I tried the Caramel Macchiato, which, to my surprise, I preferred over the Almond Joy. Both drinks had a robust coffee bean aftertaste that might be a bit intense for those who aren't true coffee enthusiasts. However, a touch of honey and almond milk does wonders to balance the flavors.
A Taste of The Modern Rose
When my food finally arrived, I eagerly delved into my Avocado Toast "Some Like it Spicy" on Tuscan bread, adorned with roasted corn, cotija cheese, Mexican cream, and chili pepper flakes. This dish was worth the wait, with its medley of flavors bursting with a spicy kick that brought my taste buds to life. I paired it with the "Lotus Flower Bomb," featuring warm toasted banana bread slices loaded with Biscoff cookie butter and topped with bruleed bananas, all complemented by two cage-free eggs.
The combination of flavors—sweet, salty, creamy, and spicy—meshed beautifully, offering a delightful culinary experience. The food tasted fresh and healthy, particularly when enjoying the "Lotus Flower Bomb" in moderation. The presentation was spectacular and well thought out, enhancing the overall experience. In hindsight, I wish I had added some type of meat to my plate, as it would have elevated the meal to the next level.
Honesty Eats
What truly made my visit memorable was my server, whose lovely personality completely made up for the hour-and-a-half wait. He was personable and had a knack for offering recommendations that perfectly suited individual preferences. His presence elevated the experience, making it more enjoyable despite the initial wait.
I also tried macarons for the first time—a bit late to the game, I admit—but they were a sweet delight and a perfect ending to my brunch. I left feeling full and satisfied. Despite the long wait and the limited elbow room, I would recommend The Modern Rose for a quaint coffee date, preferably on a weekday to avoid the rush hour. This way, you can fully appreciate the rustic modern art and the restaurant's various themes.
Overall, I rate this place an 8/10 for food and drinks, a 7.5/10 for aesthetics, and a 5/10 for service. While I spoke highly of my server, the initial experience was disorganized, and the wait time was a significant drawback. However, there were plenty of good moments, and I still recommend this spot to locals.
